Could a Thread Lift Be a Good Nonsurgical Alternative to a Facelift?

Thread lifts have surged in popularity. If you’ve already rejuvenated your skin with laser or other light treatments and don’t feel that fillers make a dramatic enough difference, you may want to turn to a thread lift.
A thread lift is a minimally invasive, in-office procedure with immediate results. Unlike a surgical facelift, there is no prolonged recovery period.
At Enrich Family Practice in Odessa, Texas, Kelly Burrows, APRN FNP-C, and Lee Ann Garza, FNP, recommend a thread lift if you want a dramatic lift in your facial skin without surgery. Our aesthetics team performs thread lifts in the comfort and safety of our office.
Is a thread lift a good nonsurgical choice for you? Here’s why you might love how you look after a thread lift.
Thread lifts are fast
If you choose a surgical facelift, you opt for a long road to recovery and results. In addition to the bruising and swelling you experience directly after your operation, you must also wait for your results to “settle in.” This can take anywhere from 10 days to four weeks.
If you have a surgical facelift, you need to plan for a month of downtime. Your experience with a thread lift couldn’t be more different.
Instead of general anesthetic and hours under the knife, we give you a mild anesthetic that numbs your face. We finish your thread lift in about an hour. You also see your results directly after your procedure: Your face is instantly lifted.
Thread lifts are minimally invasive
With thread lifts, you don’t need long incisions whose scars must be hidden behind your ears, under your chin, or along your hairline. The incisions we make when inserting the thin threads are so minimal that you don’t need a single stitch.
After we place and pull up your threads, we’re done with your procedure. We may place a small bandage over the access area, but it should heal quickly on its own.
Your face may be tender for about a week after your lift. Don’t massage or rub your face during that time to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.
Thread lifts are less expensive
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a surgical facelift can cost $11,395. In contrast, most thread lifts cost significantly less than half or even a tenth of that, depending on how many threads you wish to receive.
So, if you’d like a lift right now without breaking the bank, a thread lift is the way to go. Thread lifts tend to last 1-3 years.
Thread lifts stimulate collagen
In addition to immediate lifting, thread lifts have another perk that facelifts can’t offer: They stimulate collagen production in your skin. The tiny barbs on thread-lift sutures help hold your lifted skin in place and initiate a wound-healing process in your skin.
Collagen is a protein that provides a matrix for your skin, making it strong, thick, moisturized, and supple. Threads also stimulate elastin production, which helps keep your skin pliable and resilient.
You see a lift directly after your thread lift. However, you also notice that your skin begins to look and feel firmer and more youthful in the months after your procedure due to new collagen and elastin.
You can have thread lifts even if you can’t have surgery
You may have a medical condition that prevents you from being a candidate for a surgical facelift. However, you may still be able to get a thread lift because it’s a far less invasive procedure and doesn’t require general anesthesia. You may be eligible for a thread lift even if you have:
- Cardiovascular disease
- Type 2 diabetes
- High blood pressure
